Expanding Support to Northwest Indiana

With the opening of the UChicago Medicine Crown Point multispecialty care center in 2024, our community benefit primary service areas now extend into Northwest Indiana.
To support this growing region, UChicago Medicine has committed $300,000 over three years to expand mental health and social support services for local youth.
Through a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana, this investment is helping deliver resources to more than 5,000 young people across the region—supporting their emotional well-being and long-term health.
The Community as Classroom and Clinic

UChicago Medicine sees the community not only as a place to serve—but also as a place to learn. Through partnerships with the Urban Health Initiative and Pritzker School of Medicine, students and trainees work alongside residents to better understand and respond to community health needs and challenges.
Launched in 2021, this program engages medical residents and fellows in community service and encourages long-term practice in underserved areas.
Fiscal 2024 impact:
- 65 Community Champions
- 186 hours of service
Activities included:
- In-person and virtual health workshops
- High school career panels
- Facebook Live Q&As

Pritzker School of Medicine students and faculty provide free care at six clinic sites in neighborhoods including Bridgeport, Greater Grand Crossing, Washington Park and West Woodlawn.
Medical students and physicians deliver care directly to people experiencing homelessness—on the streets, on their terms—while helping bridge connections to the broader healthcare system.
Award-Winning Commitment
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) awarded the University of Chicago Medicine health system and the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine the 2024 Spencer Foreman Award for Outstanding Community Engagement.
